When I Grow Up and Other Mantras

When I Grow Up and Other Mantras

by Terri Lloyd

In 2009, artist Terri Lloyd’s iconic Pink Buddha landed at Ground Zero (i.e., the Los Angeles art scene) and has been making absurdist mischief ever since. One never knows in what form the imperturbable PB will materialize. It has been sighted in guerrilla theater performances, on YouTube, Facebook, in small press art-lit mags, in commie porn chapbooks, posters, paintings, and other subterranean venues. Black Scat Books published a full-colour trade paperback edition devoted to Pink Buddha’s inspirational (and educational!) mantras in 2016.

Kolaj Magazine reviewed the book in Kolaj #16.

We wrote in our review:

“Lloyd’s previous book, the sold out Little Red Book of Commie Porn, imagined the pictures of an oppressed pornographer in Communist China. Those propagandist overtones marry well with the demotivational posters, faux affirmations, bad parenting advice, and sham advertisements that make up When I Grow Up and Other Mantras.”
