Pink Buddha Says…

Review: When I Grow Up and Other Mantras by Terri Lloyd

Terri Lloyd explains the birth of the iconic star of When I Grow Up and Other Mantras, “Pink Buddha manifested in 2009 out of a collaborative photo shoot intended to feature one of my assemblage projects, ‘Baby Head WHEN-I-GROW-UP-COVERFlowers’. The flowers were instantly upstaged by me in silly jammies and a big pink papier-mache mask. As soon as I put on the mask, Pink Buddha took on a life of its own.” Lloyd’s previous book, the sold out Little Red Book of Commie Porn, imagined the pictures of an oppressed pornographer in Communist China. Those propagandist overtones marry well with the demotivational posters, faux affirmations, bad parenting advice, and sham advertisements that make up When I Grow Up and Other Mantras.
