at Fencework Gallery in Portland, Oregon, USA
2 May-14 September 2025

Nancy Hiss’ collection interprets James Thurber’s short story “The Night the Ghost Got In” and involves integrating absurd characters and situations with realistic-like settings. Drawings are manipulated 3-dimensionally to nest the action. The work is inspired by Johannes Vermeer, Batman comics and graffiti.

The works are presented as large format prints.

To distinguish from Thurber’s renowned drawing style, this work collaged toned spatial drawings with a cast of toys, Michelle Obama, a spirit animal, text, vehicles and miscellaneous props.
