FROM THE ARTIST DIRECTORY Redesigned and AlienatedBerlin, Germany. Denis Kollasch's new series of artwork focuses on experiments with folded paper. In the series “Sails on board” folds replace and complement the sails of the ships and make them appear three-dimensional. In the series “Kollaschs Tierleben”, the bases are pages of illustrations from animal paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries, which Kollasch has redesigned and alienated in terms of content, meaning, or humor. The exhibition introduces Hutchinson’s original approach to photo-conceptualism called Narrative Art, revealing his understated, playful wit and prioritization of subjective experience. COLLAGE ON VIEW Dorothy Hood: CollagesAt McClain Gallery in Houston, Texas, USA through 29 August 2020. Dorothy Hood’s (1918-2000) collages and paintings combine color field techniques with painterly abstraction. The pictorial space and visual fissures of her large-scale paintings and works on paper recall a profound mind scape that echoes her early Surrealist influences from her time spent in Mexico in the 1940s-1960s. Having moved back to Houston in 1962, the impact of the Space Age and the fathoms of the cosmos were a further profound influence on Hood’s paintings. A trove of Hood’s lesser-known collages, rich in material experimentation, reveals a more intimate look at the artist’s process and inspirations. MORE |
