STATEMENT

Anna Dottle is an archaeologist, animator, and collage poet. In some instances, she is all three at once. She digs up skeletons, creates narrative 2D frame-by-frame animation, and repurposes images, words, and textures into multi-dimensional visual poetry.

Her collage poetry practice developed in 2019–2020 as the natural growth of a childhood love for cutting, pasting, and creating rhythm with interesting words. With intention, she has honed it into a unique practice where she builds fully fledged poems using borrowed words that resonate emotionally in the moment. She layers the words over visual collages built around internal rhythm, line, movement, and balance. As both a writer and an artist, her practice of collage poetry is a way to take the abstract, cerebral methodology of writing and turn it into a tactile art to be manipulated in the physical world.
