Méditation 9.4″x7.1″; hand-cut paper collage on paper; 2025
Ghislaine Gabet Crozon, France
STATEMENT
I work mainly with paper collage, using images that I cut and assemble by hand. I select fragments from different worlds: human figures, animals, architecture, everyday objects, elements of nature, and scientific imagery.
What interests me is the encounter between these images. I play with scale, association, and unexpected combinations to create scenes that did not exist before. An image removed from its original context can suddenly tell a different story when placed beside another.
I do not try to impose a specific narrative. I prefer to create a space between reality and imagination, where each viewer is free to make their own connections. My work often begins with this simple idea: bringing distant images together and discovering what can emerge from their encounter.
BIO
Ghislaine Gabet is a French collage artist working primarily with original paper collage. Her works are created entirely by hand from cut and assembled images.
Her practice brings together fragments from very different visual worlds, including human figures, animals, architecture, nature, everyday objects, and scientific imagery. By playing with scale, unexpected associations, and shifts in context, she creates compositions that move between reality and imagination.
She is currently developing a growing body of original works on paper in which each collage becomes a meeting place for images that were never intended to coexist. Her work is presented through her online portfolio as she continues to build her presence within the contemporary collage community.
