STATEMENT

My work draws inspiration from the fragments of personal history found in forgotten photographs. I deconstruct ordinary settings, blurring the boundaries between imagination and reality in an imaginary surreal realm.

Fragments of classical paintings become backdrops, symbols transform into the essence of the human form, and layers of emotion bind it all together. My current focus delves into the concept of femininity, exploring the multifaceted aspects of women’s lives and experiences.

BIO

Born in 1991 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Marina Mateeva is a collage artist currently based in Sofia. While she explores various art forms such as drawing, graphic design, and photography, her true passion was ignited by her exploration of both digital and analog collage art. What initially began as a personal challenge soon transformed into a profound love for surreal creations. This artistic journey has led her to amass a vast collection of vintage photos, deepening her fascination with found photography.
