STATEMENT

Relationships are an integral element within my work. I am interested in the relationships we have with one another and how we communicate our thoughts and ideas. I am concerned with how culture shares meanings; meaning is attached to every part of our daily lives, but is never fixed and is forever changing with history. Making work is a personal learning process for me, as it helps me to gain a better understanding of the things I find confusing and/or intriguing, in particular the complexity of human nature and relationships, communication, society and it’s structure, the distortion of memory, semiotics, psychoanalysis, sentimental attachments to inanimate objects, arrangement, repetition, binding, aesthetics, narrative, language and socialization/human behaviours.

Language is an important element within my work; language is how we express complex thoughts to others. Language, words and images are not clear reflections of our daily lives. Language, like image, is always an unequal exchange and a tool within representation.

I see photographs as objects and am interested in visual codes and the narratives we attach to these images, photographs of my family make me think about learned expectations, socialization and human behaviours.
