STATEMENT

Inspired by the beauty of Hawaii, most of my collages and watercolor paintings incorporate cultural and historical themes, social practices and mostly elements from the natural environment found throughout the islands. My art work also weaves together contemporary, intoxicating, colorful, and engaging scenes with motifs drawn from the normal and queer social interactions that we encounter every day with family members, friends, and other individuals. The viewer is invited to take an interactive, personal virtual journey around a whimsical abstract world populated by flamboyant or modest characters that remind us of people we know, have seen, forgot, or have imagined in places that we have been or dreamed about. Under blue light, my art work becomes three dimension transporting the viewer into a new realm of consciousness. My collages incorporate curated cuttings from my own watercolor paintings and drawings, public media including magazines, newspapers, and print media. Carefully selected, pieces of the collage are purposefully placed adding depth creating a heavily textured, emotionally pleasing experience.
