Artist Portfolio: Jordan Westre

In his Manifesto of Surrealism, Anton Breton wrote, “Everything is valid when it comes to obtaining the desired suddenness from certain associations.” Breton understood surrealism as a way of being in the moment and allowing that moment to be hypnagogic or in between the realities of wakefulness and asleep. ”There is a man cut in two by the window,” he wrote. Jordan Westre’s collage combines this surrealism with Richard Hamilton’s approach to collage making.

A portfolio of Jordan Westre’s work appears in KOLAJ #15.

“Westre uses shifts in scale, contrarian placements, and nonsensical juxtapositions to make images that function like dreams but whose messages are on point.”
