Crissy Arseneau describes herself as someone who “often strives for order but only occasionally finds it.” The hard edges and tight compositions of her “Cloud City” series come out of a period of experimentation with abstract watercolour. Cutting up these studies led her to the sense of order she was looking for. She writes, “Collage is a practice of limitations with unlimited outcomes. The limitations I’ve set for most of my current work is watercolour paper, both left unpainted and hand-painted with watermedia, that is then hand-cut and assembled. Each piece is an invitation to the viewer to look up and take in their world at the pace of nature.”
