Wangechi Mutu at Brooklyn Museum

“A Fantastic Journey” is the first U.S. survey of Kenyan-born and Brooklyn-based artist Wangechi Mutu. Mutu’s work “scrutinizes globalization by combining found materials, magazine cutouts, sculpture, and painted imagery.” She is perhaps best known for her collages depicting female figures that combine human, animal, plant and machine, which she places in fantastical landscapes. This exhibition presents over 50 works, including large-scale collage, video, sketchbook drawings, a site-specific wall drawing, and sculptural installations. “A Fantastic Journey” was organized by the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University and is presented in the Elizabeth A. Sackler Centre for Feminist Art on the 4th floor of the Brooklyn Museum.
