STATEMENT

My works are reflections of myself. One who is a bit complex, but has clarity and light. They are a mirror to my thoughts of the world around me. They are the conversations in my head retracted in fragments like a shadow of broken glass from the light that resembles happiness or a truth. I was empowered by my roots and where I came from, the things I’ve seen and reprocessed and some I forgot or neglected and collected dust but washed by the light of reflection.

BIO

My name is Brian Monroe. I am a collage artist based in the Bay Area by way of Philadelphia. I express myself through collaging and manipulating images. I’ve practiced this medium among others for some time, however collaging has stayed with me. The paintings and collages of the Dadaists influenced me to start, while conceptualism pushed me deeper. I take a vigorous but graceful approach to cut and paste as well as mixed media collage methods, but I prefer feeling the textures of the pages.
