STATEMENT

Carla Gina Rubeo’s practice of collage and painting investigates and traces the aesthetics of images found in magazines and advertisements; with an interest in converging social issues such as identity, sexuality and body image, along with pop culture influences from mass media creates a playful juxtaposition. She engages the viewer to use their imagination in order create their own narrative, revealing the way politics and location influences how we see and understand society, and our place in the world.
