Daniela Akerblom
Daniela Akerblom STATEMENT Using elements and images which I find in our everyday lives, I try to recreate something which most everyone will be able to connect to and understand. Many of these images have direct links to my life and experiences. I believe that we all share similar feelings and experiences, struggles, joys and sorrows. With this, I hope to convey an emotion for the moment and period in which we live that will appeal to and touch every one of us. I still cut and paste everything by hand–not digitally–it is necessary for me to touch, feel and see what I am doing. To use a brush, not a mouse…to know that what I am creating is permanent and immovable in time. My passion for collage art has grown from observing and photographing people, and living amongst them, to enable us to discover our shared similarities. BIO After dabbling in the domain of theatre, film, and television for many years–first as an actor, production coordinator and set photographer–Daniela now concentrates most of her time and effort in the creation of new collages. Using elements and images which permeate our everyday lives, she tries to recreate something which often pokes fun at the society in which we live. Her collages are at times cynical, at other times admirative, while others reflect the tragedy of life, and demonstrate how hypocritical we can sometimes be. “I believe that being part of the human race we all share similar feelings and experiences; my aim is to convey an emotion for the moment and period in which we live that will appeal to and touch every one of us. Hopefully there is a certain lyricism in my collages, mixed with a dose of criticism as well.” Without a doubt, her collages leave no one indifferent, and will stir up varied emotions in all of us. Her collages have been exhibited in Montreal, but also at the Climate Gallery in New York city and, most recently, she participated in a collective exhibit organized by Matthew Rose, “A Book About Death”.
