STATEMENT

In 2014, after retiring, I spent four years painting and then started collaging. I was first introduced to collage in 1968 and have always liked the endless possibilities of the art form.

In 2018 I started a year of just collaging using text as inspiration. This developed into a year of making only collages using text and cars. I started getting more and more into the collage and left painting behind. 2019 saw the development of the Fusion series of collages. This series was developed from random magazine cuttings and animal parts. As they come together they develop a persona, they become mashed up versions of people we know and take on human qualities.

Most of my collage work tells a story, or wants to evoke a memory, personal or public. Sometimes I have a message I want to get across…but one constant is humor, there is always an aspect of humor. How else can we get through life? I use old magazines, journals, books for most of my materials, in addition to paint and pencil.
