STATEMENT

My creative process is an occasion to quiet my mind and enter into a receptive state beyond words where emotion, and intuition can take the lead in the decision-making process. Similarly, I invite the viewer to experience the creations in a receptive state and allow the meaning to reveal itself to each viewer individually, without the interference of words suggesting and guiding into a predetermined meaning or intent.

BIO

Victoria creates a visual daydream weaving together colour, texture and symbol in her hand-cut paper collages. She plucks clippings from magazines, books and decorative papers to combine and rearrange in a way that reveals a story brought to light. Her process is intuitive, an act of reverie, through which the unconscious informs the conscious, and process takes precedent over product. Like a dream, she allows the story to reveal itself and only awakens to analyze the meaning once completed. Victoria’s interest in art began in early childhood, when she could contentedly spend hours alone, silently playing with paper and crayon. In college, she took an interdisciplinary approach to the creative arts; studying theatre, dance, film and the visual arts. She graduated from SUNY Purchase with a BA in Liberal Studies in the Arts. Her endless curiosity has also lead her to study mythology, psychology, spirituality, astrology and the holistic healing arts. The knowledge gained in her diverse studies serves in the expression of a visual vocabulary. She currently live is Albany, New York with her two cats, Arthur and Gustav.
