Artist Portfolio: Laurindo Feliciano

Laurindo Feliciano is an illustrator who has worked for a number of high profile publications, companies, and publishers. His style combines a vintage look with modern compositions that employ a collage method and digital painting. Because he works as an illustrator, the images he creates present as purposeful, as if they yearn to say something, but what makes his artwork remarkable is Feliciano’s ability to present final images that are seamless and polished.

“My ideal work environment needs nothing more than scissors, glue, pencils, old paper, found pictures and a Macintosh,” said Feliciano. “Finding inspiration in different fields such as natural history, philosophy, animal behaviour, organic shapes of nature, fine arts, semiotics, antique books, movies and especially in music is how my work gets shape.”

“My artwork is determined by the interpretation of memory through the use of collage techniques and accumulation. More than mere transcriptional aesthetics, the focus of my work is to capture and to translate the maze of collective memories of other individuals, as well as my own, that have faded or become vague, acquiring new value as they age,” said Feliciano.

Feliciano was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He moved to Paris in 2003, and eventually settled in the small industrial town of Montbard in eastern France. He is listed in the Kolaj Magazine Artist Directory. More of his work can be seen at www.laurindofeliciano.com.
