Diagram Thirteen (Pinnacle) by Jacob Whibley

Jacob Whibley is a collage artist based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions and at art fairs throughout North America and Europe. Besides Kolaj, his work has been shown in Color and Elephant and was featured in 2011’s Cutting Edges: Contemporary Collage.

In Issue Three, Kolaj contributor Billy Mavreas introduces us to Whibley’s work and interviews Whibley about his collage practice and what its origins.

[Whibley’s] work betrayed the focus and intent of a surgeon/architect/poet. I was so used to seeing collage hell-bent on figurative gestures, that it was a breath of fresh air to see Whibley’s minimal abstractions, composed of mostly varying paper stock and long forgotten ambient textures. It all screamed “Of Course!” to my jaded eyes.
