Fred Free – Collage Master

In the last five years, few other collage artists have attracted more interest than Fred Free. His work has been featured by over 80 websites and blogs from all over the world while some prestigious publications, such as idn magazine and cutting edges: contemporary collage, have published his art. His recognizable style, a mastered balance between formal and narrative elements, has influenced a new generation of collage artists. In an interview with editor Benoit Depelteau, he talks about becoming a collage artist, the notion of collection in his process and finding materials for his art.

I love finding things. There is a certain buzz I get coming upon a garage sale by accident and stumbling upon an old book or photo also by accident. It’s this random eyes-wide-open exploration that’s important to me.
