Kolaj Goes to the Fair: An Introduction

A review and report from Montreal’s Papier12 by Ariane Fairlie

Papier is an annual contemporary art fair of works on paper presented by the Association of Contemporary Art Galleries (AGAC).  Papier 12 was held April 12-15, 2012, in a large tent at the edge of Place des Arts in downtown Montreal. Thirty-eight galleries from Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Eastman (Quebec), and Halifax presented over 1,200 works from a roster of both established and emerging artists from around the world.

Kolaj asked budding art critic Ariane Fairlie to take a tour of the fair and report back on what she saw and what she thought. In her travels around the fair, she focused on work by seven artists from Canada, the United States, and France: Jennifer Meanley, Josée Landry Sirois, Simon Hughes, Catherine Farish, Gilbert Garcin, Denis Pellerin, and Sadko Hadzihasanovic,

Samples of work by each artist and excerpts from Fairlie’s writing will presented on the Kolaj website in the coming days.
