19 September-18 October 2020

The LESS Festival of Contemporary Collage brings together an international community of collagists and image makers, who work in print, sculpture, and moving images.

Conceived before pandemic, the theme of “Nutopia” now invites new contemplation. When the tectonic plates of our civilisation shift, we have room for consideration of how nature and community grounds us; and embrace that art provides us purpose and connection, in the most challenging of times.

Set in the picturesque town of Viborg, the oldest town in Denmark, the LESS Festival sees to elevate the history, present and future of contemporary collage and the artistic community. For one month, Viborg is transformed by collage art through the presentation of immersive exhibitions including pop-up gallery spaces, architectural facades, and public installations.

Launching in this time of immense social change, this first festival presents a series of installations, available to view alone, or in small groups that invite viewers to explore new ways to connect with art in our ever-changing world.

The LESS Festival celebrates how art can transform our visual, urban and mental landscapes and sets a platform for a new comment for contemporary collage art and practice. The festival was conceived by Danish-Ukrainian artist Sergei Sviatchenko, who has worked in Viborg since 1990. The festival is co-curated with British artist Faye Dowling and with art direction by James Greenhow of the NEW.AGENCY.
