Rhonda Barrett aims to create collages that speak to our consumer driven society and direct our attention back to simple pleasures. The waste-not-want-not attitude and nostalgia of her maritime upbringing is paramount in her choice of medium and also informs many of the images she captures. The use of newspaper as her primary medium is a nod to the temporal arts and our ideas of material value.

I am always collecting paper. I have a paper route each week and save most of the leftovers from recycling by reusing them in my work. My process starts with scouring the newspapers for patterns, interesting images, and solid blocks of color. These snips are sorted into an accordion folder by color for future use.
