at The Vassar College Art Library in Poughkeepsie, New York, USA
22 January–28 March 2025

The Vassar College Art Library and Cut Me Up magazine proudly present “Cut Me Up: Transitions”, an exhibition exploring the transformation of artwork through visual call and response.

“Cut Me Up: Transitions” highlights works from the fourteen published issues of Cut Me Up magazine, illustrating the multi-layered conversations that emerge as artists transform and respond to one another’s work. Using the physical magazine and each issue’s curatorial prompt as a starting point, artists deconstruct, reimagine, and reconstruct the published artworks into entirely new creations.

From short-form exchanges to extended dialogues, the included artworks demonstrate the exchange and transformation of ideas and imagery across multiple iterations. Recurring elements evolve, amplifying their original meanings or finding new life in unexpected contexts. Some artworks echo their predecessors with near-mirrored compositions, while others deconstruct their source materials entirely, mining them for textures, colors, and forms to create something entirely new.
