Pasquale De Sensi: “Małe Limbo” (small limbo)
Italian artist Pasquale De Sensi creatively sabotages large-scale paintings and careful paper collages. The artist’s work represents an endless process where images are taken, displaced, decontextualised, and finally recomposed into new, undefined solutions and meanings.
De Sensi is a kleptomaniac who draws from the well of visual reality, stealing and mixing every sliver until new compositions are made, in which the opposites meet, cohabit, and eventually switch their roles.
De Sensi has a thorough attitude to collage, meant as the alienating combination of different visual elements, on which he intervenes with restless pictorial signs that lend tension and instability to the figures. On the other hand, sometimes the collage is revealed through a minimal composition, in which the restricted environment of the paper becomes a place of synthesis, and a neutral ground where meanings chase themselves in vain.
The works, mostly on paper, can be intended as a number of imaginary landscapes with strong and lyrical combinations of subjects, which are at first glance nonsense, yet inexplicably complete.
Pasquale de Sensi (born in 1983 in Lamezia Terme, Italy) graduated with a degree in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome in 2007 and in Graphics from the Academy of Fine Arts of Perugia in 2010. He has shown his works in solo expositions in Milan (Scatolabianca), Bari (Artcore), and Cagliari (Meme), and in group exhibitions in Italy and abroad. Moreover, he collaborated with various fanzines and contemporary art magazines, and he still collaborates with various independent music labels as a graphic designer.
