Nelly Sanchez: “Notre part de rêve”
2-26 March 2016
French artist Nelly Sanchez’ materials come from women’s magazines, where femininity is hypersexualised and stereotyped. With a pair of scissors or a scalpel, Sanchez builds a surrealist universe and shows Femininity in all her forms, with a preference for strong women.
In 2015, Sanchez illustrated Fernanda Savage’s translation of Venus in Furs by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch (Fairfield, California: New Urge Editions) and the third issue of MuseMedusa (Montreal, 2015), “Medea nunc sum”. Her collages are full of symbols to be deciphered, containing many treasure hunts.
