Jamie Rawlings says about his work:
“This exhibition is the first time that I’ve been able to consolidate a single theme within a gallery in a solo presentation. Lately I have been exploring some quite distinct phases in my work. However, threading (especially using rainbow thread) has become my current and most focused preoccupation. I work in every spare moment that I have, which includes the highly rewarding time spent searching for the original source images.
“After working with traditional paper collage styles, I find this new body of work reflects more clearly my ongoing obsession with collecting photography. By using thread rather than other photographic materials, I find that my reaction to the original is more acute and direct.
“‘Rainbows and Butterflies’ is a fantasy space in time–old and new, traditional and modern, masculine and feminine.”
