November 2016

Artist reception: Thursday, 17 November, 7-8:30PM

Kevin Sampsell’s show of mostly new collages is called “The Beauty of Passing Through”. Fifty percent of the sale proceeds from this show will be donated to Planned Parenthood.

Collage artist and novelist Kevin Sampsell leads Open Collage Night at the Independent Publishing Resource Center in Portland, Oregon. He described his foray into the Wild World of Collage in an essay in Kolaj #11. He writes, “I first made word collages in the early 1990s but stopped for many years before becoming re-invigorated by the physical/visual elements of the form in early 2014. I’ve fallen more and more in love with images and playing with their original intentions. Like my writing, I use collage to explore the beauty, humour, mystery, and darkness in people and their surroundings…My collages are made by hand using tiny scissors, glue stick, a brayer, and various other materials.” His work has appeared in Kolaj, Clackamas Literary Review, Black Candies, Lazy Fascist Review, and JerkPoet, as well as on-line at Ohio Edit, Housefire, and The NewerYork.
