30 April-27 June 2024

Cherie Savoie Tintary, a.k.a. Kitschy Collagist writes: “I have been cutting it up since 2020. Before becoming a collage artist, I was a photographer who shot 35mm film. For fun, I would travel to England and upstate New York for workshops on historic processes, visiting the birthplaces of photography. I studied at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, California from 2006 to 2011, while I worked my full-time job as a hairstylist.

“In 2020, I learned I had lung cancer. I stopped doing hair after 26 years and I changed my art medium so I could work at home.

“I have found a connection with the collage community. I’m part of several collectives. The one I’m most active in is the PNW Collage Collective. We have meet ups and do group art shows.” They had a group show at Powell’s City of Books in Portland, Oregon, USA and at Slip Gallery in Seattle earlier in 2024. The artist is also part of an Exquisite Corpse that will be at the Lewis & Clark Community Center.

“I turned fifty this year, so my new works are about nostalgia for the place I grew up, places I have traveled, and creative places collage has allowed me to venture to.

“All my materials are second hand using vintage magazines from 1890 to 1980. My art goals include making people smile and sparking memories.”
