Varujan Boghosian (1926-2020)

Kolaj Magazine mourns the loss of Varujan Boghosian, who died at his home in Hanover, New Hampshire on September 21, 2020. Varujan Boghosian was born in New Britain, Connecticut in 1926. A student of Vesper George School of Art and Yale University, he was the recipient of a Fulbright and a Guggenheim Fellowship. His work is in numerous public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. In Kolaj 16, André van der Wende profiled Boghosian on the occasion of turning ninety. He wrote, “Boghosian explored construction and collage with lyrical play and emotive depth for over six decades, and still works and fires in the studio most days.” Boghosian was a member of the Rio Blanco Riders, a trio of artists who met in Vermont to play Exquisite Corpse. David Powell wrote about the trio in Kolaj 7. Boghosian is represented by Berta Walker Gallery in Provincetown, Massachusetts and Alexandre Gallery in New York.
