To Feel Some Emotion

COLLAGE ARTIST TRADING CARD SPOTLIGHT

Spotlight on Collage Trading Card Artist Sylwia Kramarz

Originally from Poland, Sylwia Kramarz teaches at the Art and Design Department at The Sixth Form College. She writes, “Creating is a form of movement that gives me the energy and without it I have the feeling that I am standing still…To create my collages, I mostly use found images, but, from time to time, I mix them with my own pictures, too. I like producing images that encourage a viewer to feel some emotion, that cause a reaction.”

Kramarz’s untitled collage is featured in Collage Artist Trading Cards Pack 8.

Packs of Collage Artist Trading Cards are a tool for discovering contemporary, fine art collage. Each card is a full colour, 5.5”x3.5” postcard with rounded corners. An example of an artist’s work is on the front of the card and the artist’s public contact information is on the back.

We asked Kramarz some questions about her work.

Who are you?

I was born in Poland, now I live in United Kingdom and work as a teacher at the Art and Design Department at The Sixth Form College. I studied in Poland at the University of Zielona Gora and finished my education with Master Degree in Social and Cultural Animation with additional specialisation in Art/Photography. For me, creating is a form of movement that gives me the energy and without it I have the feeling that I am standing still.

What do you think about when you make collage?

When I make my collages, usually I have many ideas in my head, which very often relate to certain experiences in my life and there is no obvious way of making it. By using unconnected images and having different ideas at the same time, when making my work, it is essential for me to be alert to what is happening and then to reveal what I am feeling.

Why do you make collage?

Creating gives me the energy. It is like an imperative which helps to release my thoughts and emotions. These days I am experimenting with different techniques such as screen printing and photograms in order to produce new materials for my work.
