COLLAGE ON VIEW
Emily Denlinger: Gain of Function: New Mutation
at the Crisp Museum at the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, USA
4 October-16 December 2024
Emily Denlinger’s collage artwork explores the human condition: issues of identity, survival, truth, and power. In this installation, Denlinger shares her work New Mutations/Old Traditions, part of her “Gain of Function: New Mutation” series. The expansive collage is an exploration of masked traditions that take place around the world, as simultaneous inventions, to invite positivity into a community and expel negative forces. “Gain of Function: New Mutation” is an ongoing series created in response to research surrounding the intersections of ecology, simulations, mutations, and futurology.
As part of the exhibition, on 21 November 2024, the public was invited to guide composer Frank Nawrot as he created a live soundtrack to go with New Mutations/Old Traditions. Audience members manipulated elements of the score: images and musical notation.
