A plague on both your houses by Danielle Cole
16"x12"; vintage collage on paper; 2020
$400 | PURCHASE

Danielle Cole is a Toronto-based artist who creates playful collages through an assembly of original vintage graphics. Her work often explores the absurdity of domestic roles and the need for material goods. She writes about this piece: "All tragedy found in fiction is based on miscommunication. ‘A plague on both your houses,’ is the title of this analogue collage piece and a direct quote from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Two deaths brought on by the failure of messages received and information withheld. Lovers who decline to be apart during this time of self-isolation are the authors of their own tragedies. Love reimagined will be love rewarded at the end of this challenging time." MORE

Michael Pajón Abracadabra by Michael Pajón

Abracadabra by Michael Pajón
4"x3" (Framed: 10"x8"); collage on antique tintype; 2020
$400 | PURCHASE

Michael Pajón is a collage artist with a passion for print and a love of old books. His dense compositions with meticulously hand-cut materials are sourced from heavily illustrated antique books and ephemera. By breaking up context and repurposing materials into fables, portraits, Homeric landscapes, and allegorical tales filled with romance and ennui, he creates something beautiful out the imperfect and antiquated establishing a contemporary dialogue with the reader. “Pajón is not simply using the visual language of the paper fragments he includes in his collage, he is using their history -the nostalgic images of children from elementary readers, the off-portrayal of wildlife from inaccurate encyclopedias, the over simplified illustration of human anatomy – to weave a narrative about our place in the world and how we have come to understand it.” Pajón was on the cover of Kolaj #15 and was included in the exhibition, Revolutionary Paths at Kolaj Fest New Orleans 2018. Jill Stoll A Voyage With Joseph by Jill Stoll

A Voyage With Joseph by Jill Stoll
20.375"x17.5"x1"; newspaper, glue, paint, particle board; 2016
$600 | PURCHASE

Born and raised in Michigan, Jill Stoll attended two of the state’s most celebrated cultural institutions, graduating from Interlochen Arts Academy and earning a MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Since moving to New Orleans in 2009, her affiliation with Tulane School of Architecture has included teaching first year drawing, design studio, and electives in mixed media collage. As editor, she directed the relaunch of the reVIEW, a time-honored publication that highlights the best of student work. From 2012-2015, Stoll served as Associate Dean of Students and Director of Career Explorations in Architecture. In October 2016, the AIA New Orleans was the site of a solo exhibition of her work. “WITHDRAWN” featured a 4’ x 40’ collage mural comprised of paper ephemera. Using intricately cut pages from “withdrawn” library books, Stoll took that which was fragmented in order to rebuild it. Having passed through many hands for decades, these decommissioned books would be lost to the digital age had the artist not commemorated them through art and collage. By April 2018, Stoll has snail mailed 1,850 original postcard collages through her Random Acts of Mail Art Project (a completely commerce-free endeavor that aligns with the concept of Random Acts of Kindness) and through her Mail Art Subscriptions, a program that sends subscribers a small piece of handmade art in the mail each month. $500 | PURCHASE

Athena Petra Tasiopoulos is a mixed media collage artist and fine art photographer. She writes, "My imagination is continuously lured by the mystery of forgotten imagery. It is as if the subjects in these found photos exist in an interesting sort of limbo–simultaneously trapped yet saved within the photograph. I find myself feeling compassion for them. By re-inventing the portrait, I aim to disjoint my subjects from an antiquated identity, allowing them to transcend the constraints of time and place." Originally from Pennsylvania, Athena studied photography at the Art Institute of Philadelphia where she graduated at the top of her class in 2008. She currently resides in central Vermont. Her work is collected internationally. MORE

Guillaume Chiron Le voltigeur en slip by Guillaume Chiron

Le voltigeur en slip by Guillaume Chiron
11.8"x15.75"; collage; 2017
$1020 | PURCHASE

Guillaume Chiron is a French artist known for his surreal, colourful artwork. In his artistic approach, he mixes the real with the unreal, the known with the unknown. First, his art is deconstructed by multiple samples in a body of images produced and made available by the cultural industry. Then, he reconstructs and projects a new world, by selecting and bringing together some of these fragments. Sometimes, chance meets his work, and the magic operates. The lines of leaks follow each other and the perspectives coincide. New scenes appear, funny or incongruous, strange and reflexive. His 2015 book of collage, Mangez La Banane Parlez Debout appeared in Kolaj #15 and his 2018 book, Apprendre avec des pincettes appeared in Kolaj #22. MORE

Watch me by Olivia Descampe
9.4"x11.4"; handmade collage-decollage on paper; 2018
$500 | PURCHASE

In a time when digital technology makes it so much easier to fuse disparate forms together and make them one, there is a natural, tactile quality to physical collage that cannot be replicated on a screen. Olivia Descampe’s innate instinct for collecting visual forms has pushed her to focus ever more energy on her pieces. Having grown up in an artistic environment due to her mother being a fanatical art collector, Descampe pursued an education in interior architecture and product design, but it was only after moving to Berlin that she developed her passion for collage. Starting with a curious collection of postcards found in a shop near her home, what started as a means of relaxation became a serious artistic practice once she discovered her talent for bringing together independent imagery to create something new. Selections from Olivia Descampe’s “Botanical Catwalk” series grace the front and back cover of Kolaj #19. Descampe was born in Paris, grew up in Brussels and is now calling Berlin her home for the better part of two years. MORE
