Jill Ricci’s Artist Portfolio
“One of the most arresting visuals for me is an old wall layered with papers, graffiti and text—our modern hieroglyphics,” said Jill Ricci. From Asbury Park, New Jersey, USA, the artist found collage “by happy accident”. She said, “I was working on a design project in Chicago, and creating a textured wall, using tissue paper, plaster and acrylic glazes. I ran out of tissue paper and went to a thrift store close by and picked up a load of old sewing patterns. I loved the patterns created by layering these, and began a series of large abstract works using the sewing patterns and other mediums.”

By combining elements of advertising ephemera, hand-stenciled papers, global motifs, design and abstraction, I find a way to create work that feels both ancient and modern.
