Formats X Annie Descôteaux: Collage

Each month, Formats invites a creator to select publications related to his or her artistic or research practice.

The books, magazines, zines and/or self-published print projects selected by the guest artist are exhibited in the store for a month on a display created especially for the occasion.

The thirteenth of February marks the unveiling of “Formats X Annie Descôteaux: Collage”. Born in Quebec City in 1978, Annie Descôteaux has been living and working in Montreal since 1998. She began practicing what she calls “the Jurassic art of collage” in 2006. Taking reference from the flat surfaces of paintings, she creates her own compositions using coloured cardboard. In 2012, Annie’s work was exhibited at Axenéo7 (Gatineau, Quebec) and she took part in the 4th edition of “Orange, L’événement en art actuel de St-Hyacinthe”. She was also participated in an artists’ residency in Brussels, Belgium. Her collages are part of several private collections, in Quebec and abroad. For “Formats X Annie Descôteaux: Collage”, she has chosen a wide variety of publications, among them many monographs on the work of contemporary collagists and pioneers in the field. Her selection also includes theoretical essays on topics such as appropriation and assemblage, as well as publications addressing themes directly related to her artistic practice.
