“No Word from Glue” is a simultaneous poster collage exhibition created by Art in Places in partnership with collagist Silvio Severino. The project celebrates the 30th anniversary of the publication of the book, No Word from Gurb (Sin Noticias de Gurb), by Spanish author Eduardo Mendoza. With support from the Instituto Cervantes, Art in Places and Severino invited collage artists from different countries to create art inspired by this iconic book.
The works are being shown in four different ways simultaneously: in in-person exhibitions in Brussels, Belgium and Cork, Ireland; in a virtual exhibition; and through an eBook on the Art in Places platform. The project also has an Instagram page.
The work on display reflects the diversity of collage, showing a wide variety of images and creative possibilites. The fantastic and surreal collages are both analogue and digital.

No Word from Gurb simulates the diary of an alien commander searching for Gurb, an alien who has landed on Earth and assumed the appearance of the singer and songwriter Martha Sánchez. The story takes place in Barcelona in the time before the 1992 Summer Olympic Games. Author Eduardo Mendoza uses aliens to highlight the abusive and consumerist attitude of society at that time, when human beings behaved in an unsupportive and speculative manner, driven by greed and frivolity. During the commander’s relentless search for Gurb, they encounter many iconic, complicated, and humorous situations.
Art in Places is a platform for promoting artists and the arts, creating engaging and diverse cultural projects, which are presented through new concepts and using digital and multi-channel marketing as the most effective model for the modern art gallery.
