New Book: The Age of Collage

In August 2013, Gestalten released The Age of Collage: Contemporary Collage in Modern Art, edited by Dennis Busch, Robert Klanten, and Hendrik Hellige. The book documents “today’s continued appetite for destructive construction” with collages influenced by illustration, painting, and photography. The foreword, by curator and art historian Silke Krohn, provides a helpful overview of collage’s history, including short discussions of Cubism, Merz, Futurism, Dada, Surrealism, Pop Art, and Assemblage and Combine paintings. Eighty-one contemporary collage artists are catalogued in the volume, including artists featured in Kolaj Magazine and in the Kolaj Artist Directory, including Joe Castro, Katrien De Blauwer, Kerstin Stephan, Tres Roemer, Charles Wilkin, and Gordon Magnin. Look forward to a full review of this important book in a future issue.
