A Century of Collage at Bernard Jacobson Gallery

Bernard Jacobson Gallery (London)’s “A Century of Collage” presents a survey of collage from 1912 to the present day. The show features work by collage’s pioneers, Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, continues with mid-century work by artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Kurt Schwitters, and Joseph Cornell, and finishes with contemporary work by gallery artists including William Tillyer and Bruce McLean.

“Over, Under, Next” at the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden

“Over, Under, Next: Experiments in Mixed Media, 1913–Present” is an exhibition of approximately 100 works drawn largely from the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden’s collection. The show surveys an era in which the definition and scope of art were continually expanded through the avant-garde’s embrace of “non-art” materials.

“Urban Walls”: Joyce Hill at gallery 6 pdx, Portland

Joyce Hill’s collage is richly layered with materials including photographs, texts, acrylic paint, and found bits of urban decay. She creates a sense of energy tinged with an urban loneliness while she deftly manipulates both composition and subject matter.
